2025 AL Results Sri Lanka

2025 AL Results Sri Lanka results show that 66% of candidates have qualified for university admission this year, according to Commissioner General of Examinations A. K. S. Indika Kumari Liyanage.

The Department of Examinations officially released the results on March 31. A total of 281,810 candidates sat for the examination, and 176,527 qualified to apply for university admission.

Authorities also confirmed that the results of 111 candidates have been suspended.

A total of 7,477 students achieved A grades in all subjects, representing 3.38% of candidates. Among them, 823 were private candidates.

University Admission Rates by Subject Stream

  • Biology: School 59.56%, Private 58.43%
  • Physical Science: School 63.96%, Private 61.59%
  • Commerce: School 72.02%, Private 66.29%
  • Arts: School 67.57%, Private 63.57%
  • Engineering Technology: School 64.85%, Private 62.65%
  • Biosystems Technology: School 71.76%, Overall 70.24%
  • Other Streams: School 55.39%, Overall 51.45%

University Admission Rates by Province

  • Western: 69.42%
  • Northwestern: 68.48%
  • Northern: 66.91%
  • Eastern: 66.32%
  • Southern: 65.69%
  • Sabaragamuwa: 64.97%
  • Uva: 63.53%
  • Central: 63.04%
  • North Central: 60.91%

The Commissioner noted that female students make up the majority of those who qualified for university admission. Male students recorded higher success rates only in the Biology stream.

There has also been a decline in the number of candidates in the Arts stream, which accounted for 32.03% this year. At the same time, more students are choosing streams such as Biology, Physical Science, Biosystems Technology, and Information Technology.

Top Students – Biology Stream

  • First Place: Dilan Sanjana, Royal College, Colombo
  • Second Place: Krishan Sasindu Namtara, Takshila Central College, Horana
  • Third Place: Darshana Konesh, Sri Shanmuga Hindu Girls’ College, Trincomalee
