Journalist Bakthi Mendis death has been confirmed following the passing of the veteran Sri Lankan journalist, who succumbed to critical injuries sustained in a road accident.
The 47-year-old journalist had been receiving intensive care at the Colombo National Hospital before his demise. His condition remained critical in the days leading up to his passing.
Bhakthi Dharmapriya Mendis began his journalism career in 2000 as a founding editorial member of the Lakbima daily newspaper. Over the years, he made significant contributions to the media industry through his work with prominent publications including Dinamina and Rivira.
Born in Galle, he received his education at Richmond College, where he developed the foundation for his future career in journalism.
His remains will lie at his residence in Mahagedara Watta, Boossa, Galle, from the afternoon of April 4, allowing friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to pay their last respects.
The final rites are scheduled to take place on Monday, April 6.
His passing marks a significant loss to Sri Lanka’s media community, where he was respected for his dedication, professionalism, and contributions to journalism.
