Sri Lanka Cricket Physical Performance Test claims have been firmly dismissed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which labeled recent reports suggesting that 19 national players failed the fitness assessment as completely false and misleading.
In an official statement, SLC stated that the report broadcast on April 3 was “factually incorrect and baseless,” emphasizing that it had been published without proper verification. The board noted that the misinformation caused significant reputational harm to Sri Lanka Cricket, its players, and the sport as a whole.
SLC confirmed that several national players successfully passed the Physical Performance Test conducted between February and April 2026 as part of the quarterly evaluation process. Those who met the required standards include Akila Dananjaya, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Udara, Maheesh Theekshana, and Prabath Jayasuriya.
Meanwhile, players such as Matheesha Pathirana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Binura Fernando, and Lahiru Kumara have not yet completed the test due to ongoing rehabilitation programs and related circumstances.
Reacting to the clarification, Dinesh Chandimal welcomed the correction issued by authorities but urged a thorough investigation into those responsible for spreading false information.
He stated that while he appreciated the correction made after he highlighted the inaccuracies, it is essential for relevant authorities to identify individuals who deliberately circulated misleading reports targeting players.
Chandimal also reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining high fitness standards throughout his career, regardless of how long he continues to represent the country. He emphasized his dedication to prioritizing the national team and delivering his best performance.
Highlighting the emotional connection to the sport, Chandimal expressed gratitude to fans, stating that representing Sri Lanka is not merely a profession but a matter of pride, responsibility, and privilege.
In a separate development, the television channel that initially aired the report acknowledged that the information had been provided by a senior Sri Lanka Cricket official during an earlier program.
